Ryobi 40V HP Brushless Whisper Series 17" String Trimmer Kit (RY402110): What to Know
The original draft brief for this guide simply said 'RYOBI 40V HP Brushless String Trimmer,' which turns out to describe an entire sub-line of RYOBI products; we verified and are recommending the specific 17-inch Whisper Series kit, model RY402110, sold on Amazon as ASIN B0BXFQJ2LP with a listing title that reads 'Whisper Series 17" Carbon Fiber Shaft String Trimmer KIT with 6AH Battery and Charger.' RYOBI also sells a tool-only version and a shorter 15-inch model under similar-sounding names, so it's worth double-checking the exact ASIN before buying if the size or bundle matters to you.
This is RYOBI's 40V HP line, the company's higher-output cordless platform, paired with what RYOBI markets as the Whisper Series for reduced noise, RYOBI states 72% quieter than a comparable gas trimmer. The cutting swath adjusts between 15 and 17 inches, the widest range of any trimmer in this roundup, using a heavier 0.105-inch line that should hold up well against thick weeds and brush rather than just fine grass at a lawn edge.
Line feeding runs through RYOBI's REEL EASY+ head, a 3-in-1 design that can function as a standard bump-feed head, a bladed head, or a fixed-line head depending on how it's set up, and RYOBI states it reloads in under 60 seconds. The kit bundles a 40V 6Ah battery, the largest included battery capacity in this comparison, with a claimed 67 minutes of runtime, and a rapid charger, at a manufacturer-listed price around $329.
One honest gap in our research: RYOBI's own product page did not publish a clear weight specification for this specific kit, and independent retailer listings we checked didn't converge on a consistent number either, so we're not going to invent one. Given the large 6.0Ah battery, it's reasonable to expect this to sit on the heavier end for a battery trimmer, and anyone sensitive to tool weight during long edging sessions should look for an in-hand weight figure before buying rather than relying on our estimate.
