Vantrue N5: What to Know
The Vantrue N5 is a four-channel dash cam recording front, interior/cabin, rear, and one side view simultaneously, with a combined resolution Vantrue lists as 1944P (front) plus three additional 1080P channels. The front camera uses a Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 sensor, a 5-megapixel ultra-low-light sensor, and the cam includes a dual-GPS module for more accurate route, speed, and location logging than single-GPS setups. Vantrue markets it as WDR/HDR-capable across the channels for handling bright and dark areas in the same frame.
On DashCamTalk, testers running the N5 (and the newer N5S variant) for extended periods reported stable operation with no reboots or file corruption, and praised the STARVIS 2 sensor's low-light performance, with the main complaint being that footage could get slightly muddled in cloudy daytime conditions, occasionally affecting license-plate legibility on oncoming cars, a minor caveat rather than a dealbreaker. Storage tops out at 512GB on a Class 10, U3-rated microSD card; the base ASIN doesn't include a card, though Vantrue sells card-bundle versions separately.
A distinguishing design choice is the power system: instead of a lithium battery, the N5 uses a supercapacitor to hold enough charge to safely finish and save a recording during a power cut, which Vantrue says is more heat- and cold-tolerant and longer-lived than a battery over years of use. For actual 24-hour buffered parking mode, though, the camera still needs continuous vehicle power, delivered via a hardwire kit or the box's included car charger setup, not the supercapacitor alone. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi, GPS, and voice control through Vantrue's app, with no subscription fee for any of it. The box includes an adhesive GPS mount, rear camera, USB-C and car-charger cables, mounting tape, and a wireless remote.
