Nextbase iQ 4K: What to Know
Nextbase's iQ line is a modular 'smart dash cam' system: a 4K front unit (2160p, 180-degree field of view) that can be paired with an interior-facing camera (1440p, 140-degree FOV) and, as a separate accessory, an external rear window camera, which together get close to 360-degree coverage. The specific bundle behind this ASIN pairs the 4K front camera with a second camera and a 64GB microSD card, all included, plus an OBD/fuse-box power cable with modular tips for installation. Independent testing from PCWorld found daytime and interior footage detailed with close-to-natural color, with slight overexposure in bright highlight areas, a limitation the reviewer noted is common across dash cams, not unique to Nextbase.
What sets the iQ apart is a built-in 4G/LTE SIM and GPS that keep it always connected, powering live remote viewing, real-time theft/break-in alerts, and Emergency SOS through the Nextbase iQ app. This is also where the honesty flag belongs: those connected features run on a tiered subscription. The free 'Solo' tier covers basic local recording and app access, but Protect ($9.99/month or $99.99/year) adds 30 days of cloud clip storage, live view, and Smart Sense parking alerts, while Protect Plus ($19.99/month or $199.99/year) extends cloud storage to 180 days and adds multi-user access, live-view look-back, and automated incident backup. If you buy this camera expecting full smart-parking and live-view functionality without ever paying a subscription, you'll be disappointed; budget for Protect at minimum if that's the reason you're buying an iQ over a standard cam.
Parking mode itself is powered through the included OBD/fuse-tap cable rather than an internal battery or supercapacitor, so it draws from the vehicle's electrical system once installed. Mounting is an adhesive windshield mount positioned behind the rearview mirror. Given how many iQ SKUs Nextbase sells (1K, 2K, and 4K resolutions; front-only vs. front-and-interior bundles; rear window camera sold separately), double-check the exact listing you're buying matches the configuration you want.
