CTEK CT5 (Powersport): What to Know
This ASIN's Amazon title reads simply 'CTEK CT5,' but the underlying part number (40-339) and CTEK's own product page confirm it's the CT5 POWERSPORT model: a 2.3A charger rated for small 5-25Ah batteries, with three automatic programs, Normal (lead-acid including AGM), Lithium* (12V LiFePO4, with a footnoted minimum battery voltage of 5.0V to engage), and Recond. That's a real step down in output from the discontinued MXS 5.0's 4.3A, and it's a much smaller battery-size window than a full-size car battery (typically 40-100+ Ah) calls for.
Here's the genuine model-confusion problem worth flagging: CTEK also sells a CT5 TIME TO GO model rated at a more car-appropriate 5A and a 20-160Ah battery range, but per CTEK's own site, that model's three programs are Normal, AGM, and Recond, with no lithium mode listed at all. So within CTEK's current US CT5 lineup, the higher-power model that suits full-size car batteries doesn't do lithium, and the model that does lithium is scaled for motorcycle/ATV/powersport-size batteries. Buyers shopping by the 'CT5' name alone, without checking the part number, can easily end up with the wrong one for their battery.
Given that, this CT5 Powersport unit is listed specifically for what it's actually good at: motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles, jet skis, and other small-battery equipment, including small LiFePO4 packs, rather than as a general car-battery pick. If you need a 5A CTEK charger for a full-size lead-acid car battery, that's the separate CT5 Time To Go model, and it's lead-acid only.
